New Kalano Community Association CEO, Bill Headley

“I would like to tackle the health of the community and the pride of the community.”

Summary

He has big plans to improve Kalano’s culture and relationship with the community as well as drive economic projects to create more jobs in Katherine and the wider region.

“I have faith in the future of the Northern Territory,” Mr Headley said.

“I think there is enormous opportunity for private enterprise growth.

“It is about improving lifestyle, economy and health for the whole community.”

The lack of jobs is not just impacting his immediate community, he said, the whole of the NT is feeling it.

Recovering the Territory’s economy and population is not just up to the Government, he said, and he plans to play a major part.

“If we can’t establish pride and population growth then I don’t see that I will leave the community in a better position than I found it,” Mr Headley said.

“The biggest challenge for the whole community is economic development…Kalano has a role to play in the Territory’s recovery.”

The new CEO is taking over from Graham Castine, who, after many years of working and living in the Northern Territory, is retiring.

“I would like to thank Graham for his tireless work over many years in the community as a whole and I wish him well as he tries to retire again,” Mr Headley said.

“Over time I will meet and get involved with the obvious and also not so obvious organisations and community groups for the betterment of Kalano as well as the wider community.”
